Well I'm off on another ride. Only a short one to a place I have been many times before, the Temora Aviation Museum. This weekend they have listed a restored ww2 P40 Kittyhawk as part of the flying display, and I decided to clear my head, spread my
wings and travel the 380 km and see this aircraft first hand. I will be doing my usual daily update and picture posting, but this is only a weekend trip. I have a workmate who is supposed to be doing this trip with me, but Im not sure if he will be going.
To each their own And there will be other opportunities for him to come riding on one of my trips. i will be leaving work about lunch time tomorrow as I dont want to be riding during the kangaroo time of the day, and I expect to be in Temora around 4:30.
The campground is situated within the Temora airport boundaries so walking to the museum is only a few short minutes away. The camp kitchen means that I dont have to pack all my cooking gear, just stuff to eat with. Temora is a wonderful place
to visit, so I hope you all enjoy this weekends trip with me. Keep tuned in for the nightly updates, bye for now, bigmacs!
4/09/2015 Hello to all my avid followers. I am here in Temora tonight. I am keeping up my average of at least one drama per motorcycle trip. Todays trip started out nearly perfectly. Fuelled the bike up on the way to work,
left work at lunch time and headed off. The temperature was about 14 degrees, a little chilly, but not something to complain about. Then at about Mt Lambie, I Started to wonder where were my keys to get into the top box, where all my sleeping gear was packed.
Bugger, so I stopped and checked through my bags, no keys to be found. Dang, I turned the bike back to home and still no keys. Finally phoned work up and my keys were safely in my bag at work. So off to lithgow to collect the keys. Eventually on the way proper
by 1:30, an hour late but still on the road again. Unfortunately that meant no extra time to take pictures or dawdle along. Its been a really great afternoon for a ride and I made good time to Young,
where I stocked up on KFC for my weekend staple food. Another quick stop at woolworths in Temora for all the other junk food needed to survive this epic adventure, and this made for one happy rider. I am rugged up in my tent, its dark
and there are light aircraft practicing landings and take offs, music to my ears. Its not much of an update today, due to the delay with the keys, but the weekend is shaping up to be a good one. I Will post some pictures of airplanes tomorrow and that should
be more interesting than todays picture.
About the only pic I took today. The E13 at Lyndhurst NSW. I had stopped to have a 5 min break. This bike still runs like a dream, shame they dont still make them.
5/09/2015 Dang, what a chilly night. Minus 2 all was well until sometime during the night my feet must have been in contact with the side of the tent and then the cold started to creep through me. So on with the thermals and socks,
then I got a great nights sleep. I must remember the electric blanket next time, there is a power outlet not too far away from where I usually camp. About 7:30 and the sounds of aircraft engines
woke me up. Looking out the door of the tent and just in time to see the Boomerang going up for a practice flight. Gee its a lovely little airplane and the sound of the engine has a beautiful throaty burble. In a dive you can hear the air whistling through
the gun port spent shell ejector chutes, this sound would have put the willies up the enemy during the war years. I have sat in this aircraft some time ago, and the perspective from the cockpit is something difficult to comprehend. These planes are absolutely
tiny. 11:15. I am sitting down watching the flying display about to start. The Boomerang, P40, Spitfire and a Wirraway are being prepared for flight. Check out the pictures, great aren't they. And there is
a couple here having a domestic, its getting a bit heated and its hard to concentrate on todays update. Then through the crowd I spotted a company rep casually walking along. I had seen Laurie on thursday at work and hadn't realised he was going
to Temora. It was great to have someone to chat to, while watching the flying display. Later in the afternoon, about three, a P51 mustang landed to refuel and continue on its way, plenty of aircraft and perfect weather. I headed into Temora early
and got some food for dinner, only a hamburger, but it was pretty good. An early night for me and hopefully it wont be as cold as last night. I will try to take more pics of the way home and post them tomorrow night.
Til tomorrow, this is Max signing off.
Keep the noise down, I'm trying to sleep. CAC 12 Boomerang fighter!
P40 Kittyhawk, watch out for the Red Pointer Shark.
Wirraway trainer, some say a difficult plane to fly.
Hudson gun turret.
Cessna undergoing a spot of maintenance.
And then later in the day a P51 turns up. Sorry the pic is a bit darkish.
6/09/2015 Another chilly night, but not as bad as last night. I laid in my sleeping bag waiting for the morning to warm up, amid all the sounds of planes and the odd helicopter. A nice breakfast of fruit and nut chocolate bar,
and a cuppa before starting to pack up, my campsite and head off home. I was nearly finished when I spotted coming down the taxi way an odd aircraft with the red russian star painted on the side. The plane taxied onto the hard stand area so I just had to wander
down with my camera. I just happened to be a russian Yak 9, on its way back from the Narromine airshow. An engine cover panel fastener had come loose and the pilot decided to land at Temora and repair his plane. Apparently this plane is only ten years old
as a company in russia found the old drawings and manufactured ten ww2 replicas. He said we could jump the fence and get some close up pictures so we did. The plane has an Allison v12 engine fitted as the original engines are just not available. So he fixed
his plane and then calmly took off, performed a low pass of the airstrip and flew off in the direction of melbourne. So now im about an hour behind plan, I finished my packing and headed off home. I got to Koorawatha in good time after refuelling
at Young, so I treated my self to a fathers day counter meal at the Koorawatha pub. Roast chicken with all the trimmings, a most enjoyable meal. All in all a nice easy days ride home, no coppers to be seen and reasonable weather conditions. This
was a most enjoyable weekend, I saw all the planes I had planned to and the additional P51 and Yak9 was the fathers day icing on the cake. There is talk the Sabre will have the ejector seat issue fixed soon, so hopefully this fine aircraft will be back flying
soon. Stay tuned for my next trip to Motogp, where hopefully Valentino Rossi can win another world title. Safe riding, Max
And now a Yak!!
A little running repairs, should do the trick.
Nice airbrush artwork.
A quick rest break at Milvale.
A dog waiting for his owner at the Koorawatha pub.
Koorawatha pub, good proper food here.
I was watching the news on arriving home, and the Yak aircraft was badly damaged after flipping on landing at Tyabb vic. Hopefully the plane can be repaired.
Bugger!
